First One's the Charm for Federer

Roger Federer has won so many Grand Slams, it's unusual for him to achieve a first anything anymore. And it will be even more difficult for him after he won his first French Open in Paris today.
Soderling failed to prevent Federer from securing a career Grand Slam despite a dream run through the draw that included a stunning upset over Nadal. It seemed fitting for arguably the best player ever in the game to silence his critics by winning the one Grand Slam that had eluded him. What ridiculous things will they think of now to nitpick at his game?
Kuznetsova doubled her Grand Slam singles wins by managing to be calmer than Safina and become the 2009 women's champ. All in all, it was a satisfying this year at the French for the tour's veterans, even though in years past it's often been the tourney that instead showcases the game's new talent.
Wimbledon has tended to be the tournament that's been kinder to the veterans in years past, with some notable exceptions, like when Sharapova and McEnroe rocketed onto the scene. Yes, already I'm looking forward to the next Grand Slam! And Federer will no doubt be looking forward to it as well with a golden opportunity to soon rise again to regain the number one spot in the world's rankings, for those who pay any attention to such extra bells and whistles compared with the solid feel of another Grand Slam win.
